Wondering what to get that new (or old) Scout in your family? Well search no further. The ASM's for the TFC Scouts have come up with some items which might be considered. This is not a definitive list, and will be updated from time to time.

  • First-aid kit
  • Wool socks
Here we're interested in the socks that wick away moisture. You may buy BSA socks or buy other socks and wear the regular BSA socks over the wool socks. (<$15)
  • Warmer packs
These come in 2 sizes. The larger is good for tossing into a sleeping bag to knock the chill off, prior to turning in for the night, while the smaller is good for warming up the hands. If you Scout is planning to attend winter camp, these are a must!
  • Flashlights
Two are recomended, a primary and a backup.
    • Think about a head lamp combo, such as the Rayovac 3 in 1 Headlight. It runs on 3 AAA batteries, and runs about $12 at Wal-Mart.
    • Hand held flashlights are great for playing flashlight tag. An option to attach a red lens would be nice here. Red lens attachments are great for night vision.
  • Compass
Here there are a number of choices. These can go up to $75. Stick with the entry level versions which run about $15 or less.
  • Web strapping 1" x 4' with snap buckles. (<$2)
  • Mirror (non-breakable). (<$2)
  • Whistle (waterproof). (<$5)
  • Bug spray or cream. (<$5)
  • Twisted nylon rope 1/4" x 50' or 100'. (<$8)
  • Poncho long enough to cover a day pack. (<$5)
  • The Troop does not allow axes.
  • The Troop does not allow fixed blade knives.
